Toyota shares rise on smaller-than-expected settlement news

Following news that Toyota has proposed a massive settlement to address the owners of vehicles effected by the unintended acceleration recall, shares for the automaker are up 2.6 percent. Over the course of this year, Toyota's stock has jumped 51.7 percent.

"My initiate reaction would be 'that's it'... $1 billion charge that covers recalls and everything else and you are looking at a $250 million compensation fund, that's nothing," said a senior trader at a foreign brokerage to Automotive News. This settlement has been set aside to cover class-action lawsuits from 16 million owners of Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles and is separate from other impending lawsuits – including one consumer protection suit in California and another unfair-business-practices case brought on by 28 attorneys general.

In other positive news for investors, the Japanese yen has weakened compared to the US dollar. That likely means improved financial performance from the big Japanese automakers, the largest of which is Toyota.

Toyota Camry Specifications, Price & Photo Gallery

Camry is a benchmark in driving experience coming from the stables of Toyota and is considered a pretty car with the basic goodies coming as standard. In India, Camry is sold as highly executive saloon car. The name Camry is inspired by a Japanese word ‘kanmuri’ which means Crown. The very luxurious saloon is sold under the badge of Toyota Kirloskar Motors in India, although earlier it was brought in through Completely Built Unit (CBU) route which results in its voluminous price tag. However in this price competitive world and to garner more sales Toyota is now going to build in Camry at its Bangalore production facility translating into low cost as the car is now going to come in through CKD. With the high price tag Toyota Camry falls into the chauffeur driven car category. Camry can be termed as Toyota’s horse in the race where Honda Accord, Skoda Superb and VW Jetta are already galloping to win. Even after Camry is a high-segment car, it’s the second best selling sedan in the world and certainly is a dream car for many. This luxury sedan from the stables of Toyota will have a stiff competition from entry level Merc or a Beemer as they represent a status symbol which the Indians look for.

Camry, from its inception in India, comes with a neat petrol engine that delivers oodles of power and is surprisingly spirited to drive. A powerful 2.5 litre engine producing 178.5bhp and 233Nmat 4100rpmwith a dual variable valve timing-intelligent system (VVT-I) is on board. This is a reasonably big power plant considering the power to weight ratio. This engine also has an intelligent electronic control system (ETCS-I) that optimizes the engine output to ensure acceleration control with smooth gearshift changes by adjusting the throttle valve relative to accelerators opening. A quiet and a vibration free engine has been researched by the engineers of Toyota Motors extensively but with a 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox for sequential shift. Safety and comfort today is the car manufacturers' biggest forte and the Camry is no way behind the best. It has front and rear crushing zones side impact bars that are mandatory these days and there is no question of not having them. Air bags for driver, passenger and sides come in as standard along with seat belts warning. A unique brake assist system with air vented disc rotors for front and standard disc rotors for rear that helps the driver who panic sometimes in not applying the brakes with enough pressure. This system increases braking force even when the pedal is not pushed enough or reduces the amount of pressure when the driver intentionally eases up on the brake pedal. `Key Less Entry' along with an immobilizer are also some high points of safety in Camry.

The interiors are commodious and the ride quality is also commendable on this sedan. The passenger comfort zone consists of an automatic climate control, two options of the skin on the seats fabric or leather, an audio system with a 10 CD changer. The saloon is equipped with powered front driver and passenger seats for easy and exact levels of comfort adjustments, Body colored retractable rear view mirrors and for preventing those niggardly irritating scratches in parking lots and in heavy traffic conditions a body colored side protective mouldings. Well-defined exteriors of Toyota Camry shed luxury at each centimeter of road as it moves with a unique stance. The large sedan amalgamates sporty and luxurious looks perfectly. And talking of that smart outlook a seven spoke aluminum alloy 16-inch rim to put the package together, one can never stop blabbering over Toyota Camry.

Toyota Fortuner's Booking Restarted In India

Toyota  Kirloskar Motors, an Indian venture of Japanese car maker Toyota, announced on Wednesday that it is going to resume the booking process for its best-selling luxury SUV Toyota Fortuner in the Indian market, starting form today.

It is to be mentioned here that company had suspended receiving bookings for the SUV in the Indian market in January 2010, due to the mounting order backlog and continuously increasing delivery period for this vehicle in the country. The suspension of about five months doesn't seem to be making any big difference in leveling the high waiting period of 4 to 5 months as company still has an order-backlog of 4,000 units of Fortuner.
